Car hire from Barcelona to France

Hi
We are considering flying to Barcelona with Easyjet from Liverpool, hiring a car to get to Argeles-Sur-Mer in France.
It is the cheapest flight we can find as flying with BMI to Perpignan is miles dearer.

Has anyone any recommendations for car hire? Do we need extra insurance as we are travelling into France?

I would appreciate any tips.

I am afraid I haven't really got any advice but I am also planning on doing the same thing in May. I am flying to Barcelona Gerona with Ryanair and then driving to Carcassone in France. I am going to an apartment owned by a friend and she has done it before with no major problems so hoping it should be fairly straightforward. Might be worth looking at quidco for cashback with car hire?

Just for your information (I know you are not driving to UK) but car hire companies dont like hiring out a European car to a UK destination. They load a premium on the vehicle as they have to return it to France before they can re-hire it out because of the steering wheel being on the wrong side!
