Volunteering - St Johns or Red Cross
I'm thinking of applying for first aid volunteer work with either St Johns or the Red Cross, and was wondering if anyone has any experience of either of these. What's the training/support like, how many hours per week/month do you need to commit?
Any info appreciated.
Thanks

Dont know anything reference this but its really good of you to do this kind of work. Much respectBetter to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0

I was an NCO for St John (many years ago - 25 to be precise). I started as a cadet and then worked my way up...LOL By the time I left I was a trainer for them and taught the cadets and 'marshalled' them on jobs.
In my day you never had to COMMIT as such, but you had to firstly attend the weekly meetings (about 90 mins in the evening once a week) you had to gain enough knowledge to pass the exam and then you 'volunteered' for duties. NO one can make you attend things but obviously it provides a social aspect as well as doing good for the community.
Things may have changed though so maybe some more upto date advice is needed ...LOL0 -
I was a St John's volunteer for a while - I had to commit to attending weekly meetings and then I 'volunteered' for duties. I was a member around 4 years' ago.
I know nothing about the Red Cross to be honest so cannot comment on them at all.0 -
I'm in the same boat and want to volunteer. It took me ages to find a decent site, somewhere central with open postings, contacts and the requirements info you're after. Here it is!
