Message coming up on every page

Hoping anyone who knows about computers can advise...I'm getting a message coming up on screen on every single page I look at saying: This page uses fonts that need to be temporarily installed. This is usually safe. Do you wish to allow these fonts to be downloaded? Yes/No

I just click on the X and the message disappears but comes up every time on every page and it's driving me mad. I rang AOL to cancel my membership as the computer was soooo slow but they persuaded e to download Desktop 9.6 which is better (just) but this message was occasional - now it's constant.

Any idea what I can do to get rid of it?

If you don't click yes, of course you will get the message.

why do you use the aol software ???? Uninstall it, coz it's total carp, and access their services through a normal web browser, i.e go to aol.co.uk, log in and access your e-mail and whatever. You will notice the difference....a large part of why your pc is slow is down to aol software.

Aol now owned by talktalk is one of the worst - the new releases including 9.6 are buggy - your original decision to leave was a good one. Talktalk is the moat complained about ISP (and they are not the largest), those are Ofcom's stats not mine.

Henestly you would be better off using another provider, and just using the regular browsers, webmail (hotmail. gmail, etc) or an email client system (Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird to name nut a few).

    Good luck

Seems a pretty universal opinion of AOL then! They really are a pain in the butt...when I rang to cancel I got through to some Asian call centre and really struggled to understand the lady I spoke to. She ended every sentence with "and enjoy your evening", put me through to a technician who was even worse then somehow persuaded me to try the 9.6 thing. Then I got an email saying AOL were delighted I was staying with them!

If I call again to cancel, what do I need to ask for? I've heard something about a code I need to get before I can change provider?

    Thanks.
  • This is called the migration code. If you want to change provider then AOL must give you the code and then you give it to your new supplier. Saying that, a few months ago when my friend wanted to leave AOL they made it very difficult and stressful for her. There's also some info on the web regarding AOL and the tactics used when trying to retain customers.

I'm sure that others will advise on preferred suppliers, but I have been with Plusnet for years and they are excellent. Their call centre is in Yorkshire as well!

Thanks Steve. Do they HAVE to give you the code or can they refuse?

No, they can't refuse. If they did then you contact Offcom and complain. Please let us know how you get on.

    This is from ofcom website.

Under Ofcom regulations, where a consumer or small business (with 10 or fewer employees) wishes to change broadband provider, a MAC must be issued within 5 working days of request.

They can't refuse. But depending on your contract, they could charge you for any remaining months you have with them.
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j
  • They MUST give you the MAC code.

Be aware after my neighbour contacted AOL re some issue with his account he discovered that the call centre rep had signed him up for another contract.

At no time had he agreed to this.
