Sub £300 Laptop

I started a thread a while ago asking for advice on a used portable Mac. Unfortunately for my budget - which gets smaller by the month - I appreciate that in reality I'll have to settle for a Microsoft computer and I think since the purpose is solely homework and light browsing (ie no games or video etc) this might be a better choice.

We only have one Mac in the household in the sitting room and he gets too distracted when doing homework! He needs to go in the peace of his bedroom and concentrate. I will restrict the Computer from certain sites such as Youtube, FB, Twitter etc

Client broaght a unmarked Insprion 1545 blue with 4gb ram and 500gb hdd + win 7/64 hp for £250 - I jist set it up for him, could see nothing wrong for the price.
