Reclaiming PPI from Halifax.

Hi there,

This is my first post so am sorry if things i ask have been answered extensively already. I did have a little search around but thought it would be best to just ask.

Anyway, to my questions. I recently noticed I were paying an added sum ontop of my regular payments on my Halifax credit card. It read Repayment cover. I never recalled asking or even discussing getting this sort of cover when I first got my credit card. Naturally I phoned and asked to have it removed. They instantly transferred me to there claims department without me even asking. I didn't really realise you could claim your money back until this point and just wanted to cancel the repayment cover. Anywho, the lady explained that I could make a claim for the money I had already paid so went ahead and did so. I've now received a letter saying it is in the works and being investigated. My question about this is would they take a fee if my claim is successful and should I send a letter in myself or just let the halifax people do their job?

Upon googling around about PPI I then found this site and realised I most likely paid it without knowing on my loan with Halifax which I had just last year finished paying. I looked up my old paperwork and found my loan paperwork and upon reading noticed that I had been charged a ridiculous amount of what they called an insurance premium at the time. Again. From what I remember I never recall being asked if I wanted to take this or not. And I know I certainly wouldn't of gone for it if I knew it were the price I read on my paperwork. My question is; Should I send a letter in separately regarding my loan or wait until the outcome of the current claim I have with my credit card?

I also have other credit cards of which I plan to look into whether I've been miss sold PPI with. Im almost certain my Paypal credit card has been charging me it after having a brief look today. Again should I wait for the current claim on my other credit card to return an outcome or submit all I can now?

Thanks in advance for your answers...

The Halifax do not take a fee,no need for a letter, just wait.

Ring them again and do a claim for this one.

You do all the claims now.

Look here for reasons for mis sell,if anymore apply to you.

  • I claimed back PPI on two loans from Halifax dating back to 2001 and 2003 - I simply filled in the FOS questionnaire honestly and posted it off, suspecting I'd get fobbed off. Six weeks later, cheques in the post for nearly £12,000!

I had been approached by a claims management company who sent me all the paperwork to fill in for this and some other loans - I'd filled in some of the paperwork but didn't fancy posting off my passport to them, so never posted them. Really glad I didn't or I'd have lost £4000 to them - and it was actually quicker to fill in the FOS questionnaire than it was to fill in their paperwork!

    Best of luck!
  • Hi All

I hope this is in the right place, I made a claim with halifax. They agreed and offered £5,600. This was split over 5 loans as each loan had refinanced the next. so there was 5 seperate amounts on the offer letter and this was agreed to be paid by the 20th of December. I received 1 cheque and rang them relating the others to which they said they are on the way its just they are all treated as individual loans so do come seperate. I never received them and rang them on the 3rd January (i gave them the xmas post) the operator told me it would be escalated and i would receive them within 28 days. rang last Friday and was told they had not been sent and they were still being requasitioned. The guy I spoke said he'd escalate it. I requested a call back from someone who could answer my complaint as the department really cant do anything, and no call has been received as yet.

Anybody any advice or suggestions what to do next as I feel they are just messing me about. thanks in advance.

Halifax have a massive backlog but the good news is that they are auto upholding. That in turn is creating more work as it means everything is being paid out whether you have a valid complaint or not. So, you have opportunistic complaints in there as well.

They will get it paid out but you have to wait.

  • Just a little update for those that helped out (thank you). I have received a cheque from Halifax for my credit card which seemed pain free and easy to settle. I have no claimed on my loan with them today so lets hope I get the same result. I am however having a problem with my Paypal credit card. I don't know who to contact in regards to making a complaint. They are currently partnered with Santander but are finishing the partnership and closing their credit card option by the end of March. I contacted Paypal who told me to call financial insurance company limited. Which I did. Who then told me they don't deal with complaints and that I need to contact Santander. When calling Santander they tell me they don't deal with the Paypal Credit Card so I now have no clue who to call or where to send a letter to. Any ideas?
