Help with new meter

On friday british gas put in a new gas meter as it needed to be wall mounted and our old one was too close to the electric cables. The new meter was set at zero. This evening when I checked the meter it says we have used 14 units in the last 4 days . How can this happen? We are in a small 1 bedroom flat and to give you an idea of our normal usage our last bill for 27 days was for 34 imperial units. We havent had the heating on any more than usual and if anything our bill should come down as we only had a new boiler fitted a month ago. How can we possibly have used 14 units in 3 days?

You new meter is probably metric (marked m3) rather than imperial (marked ft3 or cu ft)
1 imperial unit is roughly equivalent to 3 metric units.
Edit: if this is the case, then just double check when your bill comes in that they have correctly taken into account the fact that you now have a metric meter, otherwise your bill will be 3 times the amount it should be!Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

Thanks for that. It has m3 on the meter so must be in metric. So if its around 3 times an imperial unit I work that out to around 31 imperial units over a 27 day period which would be about right.
You have just saved me from having a mini heart attack :rotfl:0
