Laptop Memory possible problem

Hi there, I'm after a bit of advice i have a HP Mini 110-3500 netbook had 1gig ddr3 memory installed. I thought I'd upgrade it to 2gig (max the motherboard will take) booted it up went to system info it recognises the 2gig but says that only 1gig is usable  the memory is ddr3 and with the same timings as the 1gig stick i took out. I'm running 32bit windows 7 ultimate so should be working fine.

Any help would be great.

If the same spec it should be fine,

    Crucial specs
    Module Size: 2GB
    Package: 204-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR3 PC3-10600
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 256Meg x 64 •
    OR

    Module Size: 2GB
    Package: 204-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR3 PC3-8500
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066 • 1.5V • 256Meg x 64 •
What does the BIOS tell you?

In normal circumstances we would tell you to run memtest to check the memory, however the only to do this is to make a bootable flash drive with memtest to do this - I don't know anyone who has.

Others here may be able to tell you how.

Alternatively beg, borrow, buy a usb dvd drive (about £12 for a rom version, upto £20 for dvdrw) and create the CD bootable disk.

If you bought from a good firm like Crucial, they would be able to advise, maybe worth calling the vendor and get their opinion?

Don't what other practical suggestions to make.

I was thinking about a bios update but the 3500 is only listed in HP's US website, plus there are several versions in the 3500 series, make sure you have the right version - if necessary call HP

Is the graphics chip not using the other 1Gb?

Seems like you are not the only one with problems upgrading the RAM on the 3500....

Maybe too late, but perhaps you should try getting the RAM from a supplier who guarantees the fit/compatibility. Maybe your supplier does too, so speak with them.........

Is it that you have possibly bought 'high density' RAM which is incompatible with your motherboard? (lots of these on ebay)
