Hi ,
I recently sold my old car on ebay, it is sorn, but a good runner, has a few problems all of which i listed.
The driver came to pick it up with a tow truck, paid me the cash, i gave him v5 etc.
I spent an hour trying to help him get it onto a pathetic tow truck. It wouldnt go up and then the winch snapped. As it had been started and switched off a few times, the last time it wouldnt start (i presume because it has hardly been driven the last few months and battery was low).
Anyway, the guy then gave up and said he would be back tomorrow.
Ive just had an email from the purchaser (it was their driver that came to pick it up) saying that they were not happy, how it kept starting and cutting out and there was a burning smell...that is rubbish, the only time it 'cut out' is when it wouldnt start the final time and the only burning smell was rubber from the tyres as he revved and revved it trying to get it on the truck.
Now im not sure what to do, they have the keys and the v5 but it is blocking my other car in my driveway and i need it gone by tomorrow lunchtime.... I dont know what to do...

I'd Phone him and tell him to move HIS car or your charging him for storage, I assume it was sold as seen and as the v5 and money has changed hands it's now his car.0

You gave them the whole V5 or just the small slip your supposed to give the buyer?
Send the V5 off and after a few days get a few people to push it into the road and wait for it
to get towed away.
They paid its their problem. If they have the complete V5 then thats a pain. You will need to send off for another one.
Or write to the DVLA saying you sold the vehicle and cannot find the logbook, It went missing during the sale.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yeah, report it as abandoned. Have you actually got the cash? If so, not your problem now.0

For someone who seems to know quite a lot about the cause of a burning smell, a winch, the standard of a recovery truck etc, I'm very surprised that you don't know what a trolley jack is.
Also YOU KEEP THE V5 and give the new owner slip to the purchaser. Its your responsibility to send the V5 to the DVLA otherwise the new owner might not and could land you lots of lovely parking fines, FPNs, speeding tickets etc. That is why it is the SELLERS responsibility to notify the DVLA - because they have an interest in covering their own backside.0 -

Well I could see the wheels spinning and the smoke coming off them and know what a winch is!
I have the yellow part of the V5 as it is going for breaking, I have posted that part this morning. They have paid the full amount.
I keep trying to phone but have not got through, I phoned the driver that came yesterday and he said another driver was coming in the morning before 8...no joy.
I seriously need to get out of my driveway to get to work!0 -
They have just come and got it Thanks for everyones advice.0
