When did you buy the insurance policies? (the dates you bought your car/house are irrelevant to your "no claims")

Regarding your car, you have 2 sets of questions (usually):

    1) How many years no claim discount do you have

    2) Have you had any claims/losses in the last x years.

    Which are you enquiring about?

Impossible to confirm without confirmation of how many full years you have been the policyholder of an NCD rated policy claim-free, when your last policy expired, and whether you have had any other claims that are not accidents i.e. fire/theft/malicious damage etc.

The policies started when I bought the car, January 2009. And when I bought the house, January 2010.
I had no previous insurance, so I was starting from scratch. I have not made any claims, or any claim made against me, since the policies started in

    On the motor side, if

    (i) You were the policyholder of
(ii) NCD rated private car policies that
(iii) Ran for full years from 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 respectively, with
(iv) The NCD earned under the first policy transferred to the second, the NCD earned under the second transferred to the third, and
    (v) No claims whatsoever have been incurred under any of the policies

Then in all probability you will have 3 years NCD.

However, the simplest way is simply to look at the renewal notice from your current insurer (or call them if you do not have it). This will confirm the position.

Assuming both policies are now due for renewal, you have got 3 years NCD on your car (consult your renewal for confirmation) and had 2 years house insurance claim free.

    (Or are these trick questions??)

Usually 3, but do check your renewal notice - that's what you'll need for proof.
Some companies do accelerator schemes and offer more.
Bought house January 2010 and made no claims.

Plain and simple 2. There is no proof required on house insurance, but there is a database of claims that can be checked.
