Website which rates local trades 'people'

Options
Is there a website which people can use to rate local trades people on - I live in Llandudno and it would be useful to get an idea for big stuff like double glazing and central heating.
Many thanks

The problem with such websites is that less scrupulous tradesmen get mates to rave about their work and slag off the competition.
You can't beat a recommendation from a friendly neighbour and seeing their handywork for yourself.

as above. dont trust any of those websites.
they make their money by charging the tradesmen to be listed.
some of them dont even allow negative feedback.
    avoid like the plague.

some local councils and orgs like age concern, run a scheme that lists genuine local tradesmen.
    try and find out.
age concern may not deal with you if youre too young, in that case get an older neighbour to help you out.

We run a site like those described above but due to the rules of this forum we are not authorised to provide a link.
Didn't stop you making a mahusive :spam: post though did it? - however ethical you might consider youselves to be.

Its also not allowed to use your company name or webby address as your user name. Hypocritical charm offensive.

    Сейчас осталось лишь обсудить откат.

Such websites are simply parasites, feeding off the sweat of ordinary working men and women.

This whole thing is also perpetuated on crummy TV shows like those of the stupid Dom Littlewood.

The way to find good local trades/crafts people is simply by doing your own homework, engaging them in a professional manner, take recommendations and dont assume that craftsmen should sell their skills for nothing.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Notwithstanding the genuine desire to get it right, in my opinion it is simply impossible for any website to provide what end users want - and that is reassurance.

The only way to deliver that is for the site concerned to take a level of responsibility for the work done. That can only be done if work is checked and the site has some form of arbitration service in case of dispute.

I used to work for a scheme called First Check Point here in Leeds. As far as I'm aware it's still going. The trades people who joined originally had a sense of social responsibility and wanted to give something back. What I observe today is people joining such schemes as they offer a speedy route to customers when they are in short supply.

FCP did police and Trading Standards checks on all its members and work was randomly vetted. If there was a problem they sorted it out amicably. Further more, it was a very local scheme so reputation was listened to.

Of all the sites I've seen, the majority of checks are financial and they simply don't add up (excuse the pun). It's like saying only the good guys make any money... and of course it's the 'nice ones' who spend time giving rather than taking often to their financial detriment.

Recommendation is best and honest GUT FEEL rarely lets you down but you need to quiet the logic and wallet shouts!
