Sandwich 'industrial' year

Well, im in talks to do a years indutrial placement for a company in london based in shoreditch
it'd be June to June (2012-13) and pay is roughly 16k for the year and basically id like some help finding somewhere to live
I dont mind travelling an hour or whatever to get the best accomodation to commute price ratio, i obviousy will be sharing
my placement is located near the london east overground line so getting to that line or cycling distance is also good
another thing is can i expect to be taxed earning 16k? ill still be classed as a full time student but i dont know if that makes any differance to tax
From what ive deduced so far i can expect to take home up to £1200 a month, and be paying out roughly £700 in rent+bills, so i think living is going to be quite tight (£100 a week isn't too bad i guess actually..) but i think ill have to take council tax from that also?

You wont be liable for council tax as you will still be a FT student.
Your take home will be around £1100 a month.
Use places like spareroom to find somewhere to live.0 -
my dd is on a placement year in London. near Old Street Tube Station. She is renting somewhere on the Isle of Dogs - rent about £440 a month and she earns about £850 a month. Look for student accommodation as you will get the best rates - you can also get a student oyster card0

Even though you are on placement, you can still get the 18+ student Oyster Card to save money travelling! Save 30 per cent off adult Travelcards and Bus & Tram Passes valid for seven days, one month or longer periods up to a year.
Good luck, doing a placement are the best way into a career!"No likey no need to hit thanks button!":pHowever its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:0
