barclaycard ppi help

First post so be gentle please:) I have had a barclaycard credit card for about 18 years and looking at my last statement i am being charged PPI.
I have not got the original agreement from all those years ago and wondered is it the right thing to do by just writing to them requesting a SAR. I also had a seperate loan from them that was paid off about 2 years ago which i do not remember if i was paying PPI on.
If anyone can put the process to me plain and simple i would be over the moon.
Thank you all in advance.

Hi,the credit card number is what you use to make a claim.

    Reasons for mis sell

The loans,If you have a local Barclays, just call in and ask if they have details on you.
I have looked on Barclays website and there is not a number for finding details, even customer service numbers are for specific things and not general enquiries!.Hopefully someone who knows the number to phone will post up this for you.
Look here for reasons for mis sell, think they are both the same reasons for either cc or loan.

    Hi and welcome

You can still make a reclaim without the need of the paperwork, but having the account numbers helps, and as you know you were paying for ppi, and if you have your reasons, then just continue with the reclaiming.
Unless of course you want to request for a SAR that is entirely up to you, if your successful they will provide you with the figures anyway, or you can ask the for a breakdown.

With the first account mentioned I note you said its been opened for about 18 years, so I am not sure if they will still hold data going back that far, but then they may do.

If you do want to make a reclaim on the PPI, just complete the reclaim questionnaire, send to the responsible business who sold and set the account up (business or head/complaints office).
Keep a copy for your records, in case you need to make a complaint to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS), for example, you can complain to these if your complaint was rejected in a final decision.

Now, in regards of the other account of 2 years old, contact the business and they should confirm, if its a bank, then you could call in to your local branch, and they will check for you.

The above takes you to the complaint reclaim questionnaire.

And below is a template letter of the SAR if required.

Hope this helps and good luck.

  • Hi

I've tried claiming PPI back from BCard but got rejected. I have had the card since 2002 and in Jan 09 I cancelled the PPI which, I was more than likely mis-sold, but it was quite a long time ago now. I was only 23 and a bit foolish with money! The policy I had was called 'Payment Protection Plan' on my statements, then in Sept 08 it appears on my statements as 'Optional Payment Protection'. In February 09 I called to try and cancel the payments as my financial situation was pretty bad and I saw this as some way of relieving the situation a bit but the lady I spoke to persuaded me to just change it rather than cancel from what I remember. The payment then appears on the following statements as 'Plan B Payment Protection' until I called again and made them cancel it completely a few months later.
I called BCard a few months ago and made a claim, they sent me the questionnaire etc and then told me that they didn't believe that it was mis-sold to me. I have letters from the times when I tried to cancel and was advised to change which are worded very carefully regarding the fact that I "agreed that the product meets my requirements". I don't think I have much of a case but I do feel that I've been paying for something that was meant to help me if I needed it re: sickness, accident etc (not unemployment though strangely) and I never claimed so isn't the money mine???

Does anyone have any advice or experienced something similar. I would like to claim again but I'm not sure if I've got a case.

    Cheers, Kerry
  • I just checked last months credit card statement and it says 'payment protection plan'. Is this the same as PPI ?

If you have reasons for mis sell then put a claim in.

As you claimed mis sell before with this card, when and what was the reason for rejection?.
  • Thanks for your reply Amersall.

The letter they sent in November says that they didn't think there was sufficient evidence to suggest that I was mis-sold the PPI and that they didn't think that there was evidence of "undue pressure" to change the policy rather than cancel but I definately remember the lady doing the sales pitch on me and making me think that it was a good idea!. I don't remember if it was originally mis-sold all the way back in 2002 as a skint 23 year old, but I was on a very low wage which I doubt they really cared about. I don't have any original documentation to prove anything so it's just my word against theirs isn't it? I am thinking of going to the financial ombudsman anyway and seeing what they say.
  • Thanks for all the advice so far, i'm going to get the ball rolling.
