Selling a diamond/sapphire ring

Thanks for posting this, I've recently found similar when trying to sell my old engagement ring so will be interested to hear people's suggestions.
I tried several local independent jewellers but no one would value it as they were all only buying the gold (as you say). It's got a decent-ish diamond on so it would be a real shame to just get the gold value for it.0 -
To be honest, I'd look for similar rings on eBay and then list it on there in line with these prices. If you do go down this route, be sure to send it ONLY by Special Delivery to protect yourself against scammers.0

Hell, no! It was from an ex-boyfriend that needs to be forgotten about!! Bad karma to hang onto it I reckon!!
But thanks for the suggestion :-)

LOL agree, bad karma to hang onto it :T
I sold all jewellery to gold buyers from http://www.sellgoldlondon.co.uk , didn't want to keep anything from my ex. Had couple rings, one with diamonds. They explained that usually gold buyers only pay for your gold, because diamonds are too small, very hard to take them out undamaged.
So if you have something with small diamonds, and nice/unique design you should go to the shops that sell second hand jewellery, and ask for part-exchange. That's when you are going to get the best deal.
Otherwise they will buy it from you as a 'scrap gold' (they might still sell it as second hand jewellery in one of their outlets later, you will never know).0 -
Do you happen to have a receipt for it...I know its a long shot but for insurance purposes some people do keep them...having a receipt and even the original box will clarify the ring for a potential buyer and therefore possibly obtain a slightly higher price or more interest...
Great tip, thanks!0 -

A quote for insurances purposes will give you an inflated amount which lots of people take as its true 'value' and will feel anything less not enough, you wont achieve a sale amount the same as the insurance value so its almost pointless getting one,
eBay will give a good idea of what you may get selling it privately, if not get a few quotes from jewellers, take the highest and save yourself the hassle of selling it yourself (and paying a fee do to so dont forget)Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -

And isn't that a great con ?
If their time is worth £100 an hour and it takes 15 minutes then a fee of £25 is in order but as it takes no more time to value a £10,000 ring versus a £1,000 one, why should one attract a higher valuation fee than another ?0
