Is it only a Credit Card that I should use to book a holiday?

Am I right in thinking that I should really use a Credit Card to pay for a holiday as it gives more protection if something goes wrong?

Just baulking at the £59.13 they want to charge me if I do. No charge if I use my debit card.

Its with First Choice so its ABTA protected

That is a lot, I would rely on the ABTA guarantee and pay by VISA debit card.
If you use a Visa Debit Card you will get their Chargeback guarantee. Check with your Card Issuer, most now give this guarantee for Free.

If you really wanted to pay by CC, you could pay as little as £1 on yur CC and you would be covered for the whole lot.

But I think there could still be a problem in claiming anything went wron if you were booking through a third party (ie Travel Agent)

My visa debit card is with Bank of Scotland - can't see anything on their website about a chargeback guarantee

Unfortunately no option online but to pay the full whack in one go

Check with the Bank of Scotland re Visa Chargeback. You should be able to email them on their website.
