Quiting Apprenticeship & effects on claiming JSA

Hi all,

I am currently on an apprenticeship scheme which I am leaving, I have handed in my notice, due to a number of reasons. Just a quick question, will this mean I can't claim JSA for 6 months after I leave, as it is of my own volition, even though it is an apprenticeship? I am paid the apprentice wage, and it is full time? I dont intend to be unemployed for long, hopefully I will have something lined up to walk into when I do leave.

Much will depend on your reason for leaving, I believe they contact your employer and if you are deemed to have left without due cause then you can be sanctions for up to 26 weeks.
Could you not have applied for jobs and maybe secured one before handing in your notice?

I would think very carefully before you do this. You may regret this in years to come. Don't assume you can just walk into anything. People with skills and qualifications are having no luck. Youth unemployment is at a record high. I would stay where I am if I were you. Try to address whatever the problems are. Take it from an old person (age 40).
