Work - lose money

I have a dialema
I have been out of work for almost 3 years and was found a temporary (6 month) job which ended 8 months ago - since then, I have not claimed any ESA - Partly because of my other half not liking it, partly because I keep thinking "the next job interview will be sucessful" - I finally accepted the inevitable and reapplied for ESA, last month....

All of a sudden, my last employers want me back (at £6.09 per hour - slave pay) for 16 hours per week - but beggars can't be choosers - I accepted the job
The thing is that my wife claims CA to care for me for 35 hrs per week which she intends to cancel - so I would be better off, if I stayed on ESA - Which annoys me a bit.....

When I think of these families who don't even try to get work - on £26,000 + child benefits

What would YOU do ?
ps I want to avoid WTC (they are a con - claiming I owe them £1800 overpayment from last year...)

Your wife could still claim cares allowance. It's only 35 hours a week.

She doesn't think that it is right to........
  • So - you would be entitled to WTC but won't claim because it is a 'con' and you won't claim CA becuase you don't think it's right to. How can you moan about others getting benefits when it would seem that you are entitled to them but choose not to receive them.

If the overpayment of WTC is wrong then why not challenge it?

out of work all that time and you get offered £6.09 an hour? I'd be pleased and jumping for joy not calling it slave pay.

I'd take the job. Even if it's not the job you want, it's easier to find work if you are in work, and there are more prospects than if you're not working.
  • Well I've worked for £6.08 an hour for the last 3 years. And I'm not one of those families who gets thousands of pounds in benefits. In fact, my money is being cut and I'm not sure if I will make ends meet.
