Can't help on Chesterfield, but DD (8) suffers from travel sickness and we put her on a booster seat in the front. Mrs V. is relegated to the back and becomes a true back seat driver. :D

If the weather is not raining Chatsworth house farmyard playground is fantastic for this age as there is a massive adventure playground with different levels in it for different age groups,

also Carsington warter has a great adventure playground, and you can walk / cycle around the reservoir...

Gullivers Kingdom at Matlock Bath if you fancy a theme park,

Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath - cable car ride up to cliff top, then adventure playgrounds and 3 caverns to go down..

lots of other caverns at Castleton..

the park at Chesterfield has a good play area with sand..

Bolsover Castle is good for kids to explore

bring lots of warm clothing, thermals and good boots....as long as it does not rain there are loads of outdoor activities to keep kids amused..

Gullivers is geared for young children or those who do not like white knuckle rides. I'm sure you will have a great time there.
