Astro turf instead of grass?

Just curious to know what is inovolved in astro turfing a section of garden around 20ft sq?

Maintentence,matreials etc and realistic cost would be great-I will be doing the work myself.

level ground, remove all weeds and grass
Plenty of level sand
lay astro turf
beware it can get covered in moss over time and very slippery

A weed membraine and a layer of sand. Ours has been down over 3 years now and it looks as good as it did on the first day.

lots of sand. and thats about it really.
a jetwash every month or so is a good idea.

Hows the astro secured down or does it secure itself on the sand?

you can buy specail nails, but ours butts up to slabs so wasnt needed x
PS if you going to DIY it then check out ebay, we got ours at a good price
