Dad needs to return all mail to the sender with "Not known at this address" written on it - pronto. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Why? I can understand your comments if it was a total stranger that used to live there, but for his son??
If it was my dad, I wouldn't be too happy with him to find that my benefits were stopped because my mail had been returned as 'not known'!
Father should contact the council and explain what is happening. It is better to be upfront with them instead of them finding out.0 -
Return the mail with a covering letter giving all the facts. It's someone else's fault.0

Because they are now cross referencing information for households. It is intended that single person's tax allowance will be removed if a second person is using the address to receive official mail like bank accounts, DWP etc, for example.
The next thing that will happen is that dad will have most of his benefits (except DLA) have been stopped because son is resident there. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I would tell them that the son is not living there - this could have an inpact on the dads benefit if it is thought that another adult is in the household. It could affect all his benefits apart from DLA.
and apart from that - if the girlfriend is claiming saying that she in on her own he could possibly get drawn into a fraud case and asked to give a statement as to whether or not his son lives there - it depends whether he wants to lie for him or not0 -
thank you all for your replies , l thought as much , but did,nt want to worry him until l knew for sure , he,s a very trusting man and obviously dont want to cause probs for his son , but needs to put himself first
l will pass your advice on

But son isn't resident there! They MAY think he is - which is a whole world away from the actual truth of the matter.0 -

Which is why when the letters get sent back to the DWP stating "not known at this address" they will suspend the payments. The son will soon get in contact with the DWP chasing up his money they will then take new address details and ensure that his circumstances have not changed.0
