Help needed - Grounds for Complaint?
I'm not sure if this is on the right board, but here goes.
Early last year I switched enerrgy supplier from EDF, but because I have 2 meters EDF made a right mess of it. Eventually, I got the second meter switched 2 months after the first and didn't get a final bill for a further 3 months.
I did forget to phone EDF with my meter reading after I got this bill, as it was based on an estimate and not the figure I gave the company I had switched to (and it was way higher than the correct figure) but when I got the reminder through I did call them straight away with the correct reading and was told it would take 28 days to get the amended bill.
2 weeks after that call, I had a letter from a debt collection agency stating that I owed EDF the full amount from the last bill. I phoned them and they said there was a note on the file that the bill was to be reduced by 25% and, although they said I couldn't pay in installments I have now managed to pay off the reduced figure.
Yesterday, I had a letter from the DCA threatning legal action if I don't pay the full amount - not the one reduced by 25% by the entire bill.
In early December I did chase EDF up about the reduced bill and was told it would be a further 28 days - that time was up yesterday.
So my question is, who do I complain to about this? EDF? The DCA? Both? DO I even have grounds for a complaint?
I can't fault the company I've switched to, they have been very helpful all the way through but I would never go near EDF again after this experience.

That is the main (only?) thing that Edf has done wrong if (and I don't mean to disbelieve you) you can prove it.
So test that by a complaint to Edf.0 -
Your account is / was with EDF, your (primary) complaint with EDF, you say EDF said they would reduce the balance by 25% so it seems to me there is no reason to talk to anyone other than EDF.
As to legal action threatening it is one thing taking it another & if you're right what have you to be afraid of anyway? Don't let so called debt collectors intimidate you - that's what they count on when in reality there is little to be afraid of!0
