I dont think they allow photocopy, tax mine and my hubby cars last month and they never even looked at the documents!! Just took the money and filled in the tax disc even though i handed over the documents folded over under the counter!!
Why ask for them if they are not even going to check!!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
Have you tried phoning the DVLA and seeing what they suggest? Maybe they can out a note on their screen to say that you've just purchased the car and waiting for the paperwork etc to come through.0

Its no good phoneing the dvla, they will tell you that you can not legally drive your car. Your only options are to chance it and hope you dont get caught or to wait until you have your insurance docs and then got to the post office with those and your little slip from v5 to tax it.

Not sure if you will find this of any help or not but i had a similar situation and if you buy it online then you are ok if the police check as it will all be updated. You also get a reference number so your car is actually legal, it also checks online that it is all insured and mot etc so u dont need the docs
when i went to the DVLA i was actually told there was no fine as we paid our tax disc 2 days into the month after it expired but they make it out that if u dont pay you get a fine.0 -
On another note, I think you might find that your insurance will be invalid if you drive an untaxed car. Insurance companies usually have this sort of get out clause... probably in the small print somewhere.Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0

Thanks for this guys...
Im still in the same boat, just called the PO they say deffo need the insurance. Tried online, insurance not yet updated and they say they send the disc to the registered keeper - which isnt me till they get my form.
I guess ill just have to use it for work only, then take all the docs with me and if I get stopped plead for my life !!0 -
Can you not call the insurance company and get them to fax or email the cover note over... you can then:
a) Take it to the PO and try your luck...
b) At least have something to show the police if you get stopped.
Personally I wouldn't take the risk of being untaxed and uninsured...
Is public transport/taxis/lifts/carsharing not an option for a couple of days?Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0 -
I would defiently call the insurance co and explain the situation they might be able to speed it up and fax the cover note to your work reception. I'm sure this would proof enough for the PO, it must happen all the time.
I have been caught without tax and the police man just said if i taxed it before the paperwork went through I wouldn't have to pay the fine, I was in a similar situation with the registration docs. I hope this helps.0 -

The man at the PO is a bell end as I got my insurance with a faxed cover note and also one emailed and I printed it off.0
