Faulty Part and Faulty Service

Options
Would like some advice on dealing with Kia Garage who at my cars first service fitted a faulty part which caused the engine to seize its only luck i wasn't driving my normal route at a faster speed. I was without a car over Christmas which ruined our plans of staying with family and they had my car for a total of 28 days without a formal apology. finally got my car back but it had to go straight back as they failed to fit the fan belt correctly

Totally disgusted with service, inconvenience and lack of responsibility and yes I feel I need to be compensated other than the refund of the service to which I am entitled to and is not compensation.

Any ideas?

Not going to lie, you deserve little to none.

I assume they are refunding the initial service charge in which case is enough.

    a) They still carried out the work and are entitled to be paid for it.
    b) It's Christmas & New Year, of course things are going to take longer to be delivered and fitted
    c) Fan belts are easy things to slip off after work done, and easy to fix.

Ask for a written appology and thats it.

But others on here might see it diffrently, so i'll let them get some airtime too.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but it seems like you are looking for compensation for the inconveniences you have suffered.

If so, you need to come up with a monetary value for each of those inconveniences.

You mention one inconvenience as being without a car over Christmas.
That in itself has no value. For example, my car did not move over Christmas, but you may have travelled far and wide. Include any taxi fares in your claim. But it may be more difficult to include any travel you did not undertake because you didn't have a car.

Then send your claim to the garage.
  • I also fail to see why you think you're automatically entitled to a refund of the service, yes it made a mess of the car but they've fixed it and will have serviced the new engine too.

Regardless of the inconvenience, they could still have charged for it as it was carried out. I think you'll be lucky to get much more IMO.

Thanks the service is covered under the sales and goods act - they have to refund. I have expenses as wasn't staying at home over Xmas so will forward these on. Thanks for your comments

And how do you conclude that they have to refund?

But they've remedied the situation and you now have a car that has been serviced with no extra cost to you so why do you think you shoud get a refund via the SOGA?
  • Please don't confuse me with people who are rude and insult others for no reason. I posted about the Sales and Goods act because I had an emailed response from Consumer Direct who gave me that information.

These forums are here to help people and 'what I don't know' I ask advice on to find out more.

whos accepted it? the garage? The problem with a CD email is it depends onw hat you tell them as to what they say.

I cannot see any legal obligation under the sales of goods act that would require the garage to refund in full when they have resolved the issue.

Although despite saying you weren't 'one of those people' your tone and the way you come accross here certainly doesn't support that view.
