windows live ID problems

I have windows live mail on my windows 7 laptop and as the windows live ID was still my old email I stupidly decided to update it to my new virgin email address. I even more stupidly typed the email address wrongly (co.uk rather than .com)
I am now in the surreal situation where they say they are sending the verification email but I obviously can't receive it. If I try to change the windows live ID it seems from searching on the net that you can only do this every 6 months!
This wouldn't matter apart from the fact that as I can't sign in (because they I can't receive the verification email) I've totally lost all my address book contacts and everything on my calendar.
I'm going round in circles and would appreciate any suggestions.
