Barclays Premier Life Account - Black Card ?

Hi, I was on the Barclays website and was reading up about the Premier Life Current Account, with a view to switching (As Clydsdale Bank are useless). It says on the website "Black Premier contactless debit card, to make payments easier and faster (subject status)". Now this sounds strange to me that Barclays want to do, what sounds like a credit check to see if you qualify for a different design of card.

It would be a bit rough if Barclays charged you £25 a month for a Premier Life account, only to give you a light blue debit card that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Does anyone know what the criteria is to get the black premier card ? because, to be honest, my credit report cant really handle another search added to it haha.

If you quality for a card starting 4658 you stick with a blue card. If you qualify for one starting 4659 you get a black card.

4658 is for people with low turnover / low account score, as they are "Full Auth" cards - i.e. can't be used on trains or other offline POS terminals.

Black cards only cone in the 4659 variety. Doesn't require a credit check, based on account conduct.

Does it really matter what colour the card is now that they mainly get stuck into a shop card reader and nobody else actually gets to handle it or even see it properly? Very little drool factor nowadays. Even Marks and Sparks send out BLACK credit cards!
