Rome hotels?

Hi

I'm looking to book a short stay (3 nights) from the 17th April in Rome for a friend. The hotels seem quite expensive - have any of you any recommendations. She doesn't want to be too far out and likes a modern hotel. I've seen the Holiday Inn Express in San giovanni which seems reasonable - has anybody stayed there?

Thanks for your help

Ask on Trip Advisor - I don't leave the room without checking on there these days :D

    Have a look at Venere.
They have a search by location facility which helps rule out the areas you don't want and also have a good customer review section for each hotel.

I've just booked a few days at La Residenza for June. Wasn't the cheapest, but is in a good location and has great reviews.

Check out here for a 4% discount code.
  • We're off to Rome in May and have booked into the Villa della Fonte http://www.villafonte.com/vis_dettaglio.php?primo_livello=menu&id_livello=744 in the Trastevere area. We looked through the Rough Guide and it sounds like a decent place, fairly close to all the sights but in a quiet square (Rome is a very noisy city!)

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

I got a message saying I'm not authorised to use this code, so they removed the 4% discount.

  • We went about 3 years ago and hubby booked using venere- they were great. we stayed in the hotel romano- http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/kolosseum/hotel_romano.html It was literally on top of the colloseum and a great base to get to everything- when we were dropped off by the train station, we walked down the hill until we thought we were staying IN the colloseum! The man who owned it was FANTASTIC with a capital F- if I like somewhere I will recommend it but if not I won't and this place was great! The pavement cafes were all around and the room was lovely with some of the rooms having views over the Colloseum. Just to say, we invested in a copy of the lonely planet Rome and it was well worth it as otherwise the only thing you can do is follow english tour guides around and listen- there is just so much history to take in! Nice shops too and found the back street restaurants were alot more authentic and family driven than the main street ones- have a lovely time- this is my most favourite place in the world (bar the Hilton Maldives).

Just tried it and it's working fine. So the 4% discount is still available.
  • Took my lady last month for her xmas/birthday present. Stayed at Hotel Delle Province which is situated two stops (at Bologna stop then a 5 minute walk) from the Termini station. Paid about £50 a night 4* and the buffet breakfast wasn't bad (nice touch was the man who carried our cases to our room!)
