I was just wondering, can you get dla care at higher rate and get jobseeker allowance

I have a friend that receives dla at higher rate for care and lower rate mobility, I was just wondering if he could get jobseekers allowance and still receive the above mentioned benefits??

  • In theory yes, you can claim DLA and work so you could claim DLA and be actively seeking employment you would also get the additional premiums on Income Based JSA. However, with a person having such high care needs it is more likely that they would have limited capability to work and thus should be claiming ESA.

Definitely yes. If the person is available for work and actively seeking it then he can claim DLA and JSA. Many people get DLA and work .

Do you think he could hold down a job either full or part time. I would agree with creditcardhelp11 ESA maybe a better benefit for him.

Im sure you can - DS gets DLA high care and low mobility and works (in a supported environment). Having a job has made a real difference to him. However it depends totally what your friends care needs are, and maybe pain levels etc. DS has learning difficulties and regular seizures so as long as he is supervised (and doing something simple) it works for him.

Thanks for your answer and help, the issue is his saying he does not want to claim ESA as his readily wanting to work even though he has very serve psychiatric issues. But when he takes his medication his able to be stable and not talk to himself, his a hardworking guy he wants to contribute to society. He could have easily claimed ESA and income support as he is entitled to both. So he was just wondering will his DLA be affected if he claims jobseekers allowance like be reviewed thanks.

It is perfectly possible to receive DLA and work as long as doing so does not contradict any claims made on the DLA application form.
