Sorry - I ventured over to the special occasions board but made a hasty retreat back to here.
We bought a unicorn Pinata (with the fancy "a") dd named it Terry and then Princess Rainbow. We are planning on beating the hell out of it on saturday but have no idea really what is involved.
Terry will have to be hoisted up somehow in my living room, is that safe? How do small people break the thing, is it easy? I don't want tears because the 4th child has broken the thing before everyone else has had a go.
What do people fill them with? I don't really like the plastic junk idea, does everything just flop out onto the floor and then it's a bun fight for the goodies? Is there a limit to how heavy with goodies it can be?
Has anyone else used a pinata? If so I would love some advice

The ones I've seen have always been stuffed with sweets or Cadburys treatsize things. Don't worry about everyone having a turn - the adults will all get several turns too; they don't break easily!0

I love it when you discover something you'd never heard of on here.:D0

they really take some whacking -in my experience the kids get bored after the 4th turn and the grown ups have to beat the heck out of it. We filled ours wiht sweets and had some bags handy for the kids to shove their booty into!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

As chunkychocky says, they don't break easily! We had one at my youngest son's birthday party a couple of years ago. The party was held in a hall, and when we went to hang up the sweetie laden pinata, there was no hook or suitable place to hang it from!!
So we just had to attach it to my DH and set them off! The tribe of manic children were chasing my prince round the hall ( and getting some good whacks in :-) I tell you!) and Jim, well I think he was screaming...
That was a great party xThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Haha! The man in the shop said whatever you do, hang it from anything but yourself!
I think I am relieved it doesn't break easily.0 -
I've always put them in the garden, they really do take some whacking to bust them, it could quite easily destroy whatever it's tied to indoors!
With the last one we had my OH have it a good few whacks before the party so it was half done and much easier for the children to finish off.
I usually put in a mixture of sweets and little toys and give them their empty party bags to put their loot in, then I just pop a slice of cake in as they leave

Thanks Peachy, we will do that. I might make a few slashes in it before the party to loosen it up if it is going to be hard.
I've got no garden that's suitable so might have to use the fall back of husband, against advice.
I've had a chuckle at some of the mental images here, so thank you. Frittata will never be quite the same.0 -

Shame you don't have a garden, hanging them from the washing line works well.
Maybe slide it onto a pole (like a mop handle) and secure in the middle and have an adult either side holding it up (hopefully they will be able to keep just out of whacking distance)
From experience DON'T put bags of maltesers in unles you like sweet chocolately dust! What the heck was I thinking?
