  • FTM -SM - I am always the one who gets pulled over at security at airports, best one was going to Sweden last year and they pulled me over with my little day sack and said There is a suspect item in your bag Madam, we need to check it out. I went to open the bag and the guy shouted don't touch it!!!!! I backed away and he emptied my bag - what had caused the fuss? My hair fixer it's an oval of leather with a pin that goes through two holes in the leather to hold up a plait and they said it looked like a knife on the ex ray. Now I'm all for security but at 64 do I really look like a terrorist or potential hijacker? I always seem to set off the bleeper in the arch as well. DD1 is getting to the point where she sends me through a different arch to her , Praps I looks desprate an pirately, I thought I just looked ancient!!!!!!!!! Have a good day folks Cheers Lyn xxx.

You and I must be twins - my colleagues refuse to go through the same airport queues as me as without exception I get searched. Even when the scanner doesn't bleep I'm pulled over for a "random" search.
Your hair fixer reminds me of a few years back I was flying back to Glasgow from Manchester and I was pulled aside at security. It was late October or thereabouts and I was wearing a poppy. I ended up with no less than 3 staff and a manager all round me debating what they were going to do as I was wearing something which could cause grevious injury (the pin part) - when I said I'd been wearing it all day and no one had bothered on the flight down one of them said "well offensive weapons are pretty commonplace in Glasgow anyway". Maybe not a smart move but I went off on one in a big way and finished my rant by asking them which newspaper they wanted me to contact regarding being stripped of my poppy. I got it back but I swear since that day forward I've never made it through security without a search of either me or my baggage.

I had an unexpected (rather large) expense today. My washing machine went on fire - wouldn't spin, horrendous smell and when I got it open I could hear sizzling going on behind the drum:eek: so hubby and I have had a trip to Costco to purchase a very nice, very shiny, but costly Maytag washer which apparently has "intellisense" and knows how dirty the clothes are. Just wait until it gets some of hubby's working clothes when he has either been greasing a lorry or machine or heaven forbid covered in much worse from the farm. I really shouldn't laugh but he had an incident last weekend where he was injecting cattle for some reason and one of them "deposited" right into his wellingtons. :rotfl::rotfl:I wasn't laughing as much when he came home with them and expected me to get them clean - that was a new task, cleaning the inside of a pair of wellies!

Depressingly Costco had lots of seasonal decorations. I can't bring myself to say the "C" word and as I wasn't in much of a mind for walking round the store I didn't really see much else. Oh, apart from a lot of spring bulbs - I bought 90 assorted tulips to cheer myself up since I'd had to buy the washing machine:o

Anyway sounds like hubby has the washer installed (I left him to it) so I must now go and rewash the soggy load which got stuck in the old machine earlier.

Will catch up with you all over the weekend.
    NO FARMS = NO FOOD
  • SM - I trust that you did the OS thing after cleaning the wellies and emptied the contents onto your nice shiny new veg beds!!!!!!! Sad about the washing machine but I'm really glad you were there when it happened and didn't come home to a damaged house, I think you were lucky in that respect. Have a good weekend Cheers Lyn x.
  • MrsLW - you are spot on. I'm more than a bit embarassed that I didn't think about the outcome if I hadn't been at home:o:o:o
90% of the time I'm normal- the other 10% I revert back to being a selfish moo who doesn't see the positive in things.

The weather has been pants over the weekend so yesterday mum and I went off to the garden centre. I realised that I had planted lots of tulips and daffies but no snowdrops so I decided to go buy some. Was a bit surprised to find they are way more expensive than other bulbs however I picked up 50 so we will get them in soon. We did plant some a few years back and nothing came of them so fingers crossed this time!

i had a splurge today - bought 2 tickets for the 40th anniversary of the Rocky Horror Show in March next year. I've seen it several times before and just love it so couldn't resist it and I figured early March is a dull time of year so when I got the email I thought "what the heck" and bought the tickets. Something to look forward to.

I've also been clearing out and discovered 5 paperbacks which I haven't read so I will take a couple on holiday in a few weeks and I will endeavour to read at least one before then. I used to devour books in single sessions. Now I never seem to have enough time, I really need to have a look at how I'm organising my life these days!

Not sure if everyone is on holiday tomorrow- if so make the most of the last bank holiday before December. Hopefully the sun god will shine on you - he's certainly boycotting Central Scotland at the moment:)
    NO FARMS = NO FOOD
  • Morning SM we like you just as you are!!!!! Serious envy of Rocky Horror Show tickets, what a super thing to have to look forward to. We've never been able to get snowdrops up and running despite having planted dozens of bulbs, I put in another 40 last year and 5 came up in a desultory way, I'll be surprised to see them again this coming spring. How is your dad getting on these days, hopefully he is well on the way to being fully fit and functional again.

We are busy with the garden and allotment at the moment, everything seems to have decided to grow finally and we have more produce than we've had all summer. I picked another 4 lbs of blackberries yesterday and the tomatoes are producing in numbers now. Looks like it might be chutney time soon. We have started finding bags of apples on the doorstep for our cider making and a lovely guy who gave us apples on Freecycle last year e.mailed yesterday to say he had more than he needed and would we like the spares. There are some nice folk around and we'll give him some cider later on.

Thank you for your donation of a bit of the sum gods time, he was obviously listening as it is a nice sunny day down here. Hope you are as lucky up in Scotland. Have a good week Cheers Lyn xxx.

Ladies, if you want snowdrop's then your best off buying a pot of them in spring and planting, they are one of the few that need spliting and being planted when in the 'green' ie: when activly growing, hth.

It's not my idea, sorry to say I'm not that good, but I went on a walk round a home that only open's in spring just for snowdrop walk's, and as I'v said before I'm a nosy begger:o, so I asked the gardener why is when I plant snowdrop bulb's they fail and he said it's probably because the bulb's have dryed out and I would be better off buying a pot to plant.

  • BOULTDJ - it doesn't matter who had the idea first, you've shared it with us and that's very generous so thank you anyway! Cheers Lyn x.

Morning ladies..hope that your all well today...

Hubby at work all day and no day off til saturday...nevermind..

SM..you were so lucky to be at home when it went up..it could have been disastrous...glad your ok and that treacle tart has been playing on my mind..think i may have to make one...
The Rocky Horror show..wow my dd heather was in the production of it in her last yr at school...lol i can still see her tottering around in these high heels and make up literally plastered on her face..she is 21 tomorrow..time sure has flown thats for sure.
MLW..hiya..wow you lotties sound good am a little envious of all the fruits you have..but enjoy the jam its the best thing about growing your own..i have some raspberries left from last yr so i will have enough jam to keep us going til my fruit bushes get established to crop really well.
Boultdj..thanks for the tip about snowdrops..i have a few in my front garden..but would like more..i feel a trip to the garden centre is imminent...
Its very quiet here today..girls are watching Barbie in the Nutcracker..total silence...i also have a barbie theme going on in the dining room..the shop, school, beauty parlour is all set up...had to hoover around them..
Fern has lost another tooth...Iris had to have emergency trip to dentist on friday after falling over and banging her mouth on a toy train..blood everywhere..i was really panicking. When we got there the dentist was amazing and i was so proud of her for sitting in the chair and being brave...he had a look and cleaned it up..its very wobbly and her lip is very swollen as is her gum..hopefully it will be ok..but have to take her back on tuesday..she got upset telling him how she did it...he has known her since she was born and i think his heart went out to her,he gave her a cuddle and told her he would fix it..she also got a balloon and a huge sticker for being brave...but she never let go of my hand..i wanted to cry..so i treated both girls to a huge ice cream with the works when the ice cream man came around...cost a small fortune but was totally worth it to see the smiles on their faces.
As for today, well we were up early and have done all jobs..got some nice beef in slow cooker and i am making a carrot cake later on...got a load of washing done and one more to go..just hope it doesn't rain..
I have bought some new curtains for my living room...we were going to re-decorate but i love my wallpaper too much to replace it lol...so i am going to compliment it with some lovely dark red chenille thermal lined curtains..red cushions and a red rug...it will look lovely..and the curtains i have already up at the windows will fit my dining room..but i am going to applique some huge flowers on them just to brighten them up a bit...
right i have to go and sort the washing out...hope you all have a lovely day and it doesn't rain...
    love
