got my hdmi cable, laptop and tv need help

Ive got one of these just hook it up hdmi cables that i just bought and have the lead into the laptop and the lead into the back of the TV.

Can anyone help with my next step to view the picture from laptop on the tv and not the laptop screen? Thanks.

    You need to set the output to your HDMI (probably graphical properties)

    Generic Laptop instruction:

    Check your keyboard's "f" keys along the top. Look for one that as a symbol like this "IOI"
    That's the screen output key. Press the "fn" and the f-key with the symbol.

    It should switch between:
    both screens on,
    the laptop screen only
    and the external screen only.
