Monthly Payment

Hi,

I used my credit card to gamble (I know!) but it came up trumps so repaid the amount + all my winnings onto my credit card which was before my payment date & covered the min payment & a lot more. Got my statement & it has me down as missing my payment, my credit payment is down as transactions. Naturally I am going to complain but want to know if anyone else has been down this path & is this correct?

So you paid the amount off after receiving your statement, but before the due date on the statement? and not via a refund or similar?

when gambling sites put money back, they tend todo it like a refund
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

A refund from the site won't count as a payment - if you didn't also make a payment yourself for at least the minimum payment then they are right to charge a missed payment fee. Not all providers do but they according to the T&Cs they certainly can.

    I disagree.

Making a payment when you know the account has already been cleared down to zero (by a refund) may put the account into credit, which is often specifically prohibited by the T&Cs.

The card companies cannot legitimately leave you in the position where:
-if you do make a payment you're in breach of the terms
-if you don't make a payment you're in breach of the terms

IMO, if the entire statement balance is cleared by a supplier refund before the due date, then there should not be a late or missing payment marker, because the cardholder has ensured that funds have been received in time.

This is definitely worth fighting over. Make a complaint and escalate if necessary.

If it did not clear the whole balance due then a payment is still required. The op said the refund covered the "min + a lot more" but not the whole balance, bang to rights I am afraid. My cap1 statement makes this scenario perfectly clear.
  • Cheers for the info/heads up. After reading them I thought I was onto a hiding to nothing. I still rang them though!. I explained to them the payments may show as refunds/credit & not payments but they are are not refunds they are are authorised payments to Barclaycard from me. To cut a long & very boring storey of me being arsey, I got the £12 late fee canx & my 0% reinstated. I would imagine I still have missed payment on my credit file which I may pursue next.
