Has anybody managed to successfully use a Wi-Fi (non-3G) Kindle on Thecloud.net's offering at McD****** or any pubs which use it? Have already signed up for username and password, but my Kindle wasn't having any of it this evening. Cannot use my uni "Eduroam" service. Just want to give it the initial setup, then I'll be USB most of the way.

I haven't tried connecting to networks in public places, but when I couldn't connect my Kindle to my uni's Eduroam network I emailed the ICT helpdesk. They sent this back: 'Unfortunately the Kindle is only capable of connecting to basic wireless networks and is unable to connect to our Eduroam network due to the type of authentication used.'
Our ICT department are useless though, so take it with a pinch of salt.0 -

Plan B was Thecloud.net down the pub but I just need to know if I'm wasting my time!--Savings: 26/09/14 the day I reached 100k, 24/07/20 200k, 23/08/24 300k

for the OP.does your mobile have a wifi ability?
many new mobiles can be set as a hotspot
so connect via phone and connect the Kindle or whatever to that wifi0 -

My phone? The clue is in my username
All I wanted from this thread was a yes or no as to whether it's possible to take a Kindle down the pub and get it to wifi. Someone must know, surely?--Savings: 26/09/14 the day I reached 100k, 24/07/20 200k, 23/08/24 300k

Thanks for that link - a friend asked me because he gotted fobbed off with the usual BS from IT support and the Apple fraternity seemed catered for which was odd, since Android is supposed to be so free and open. So I've passed the link on to him.

Kindles wont connect to ad hoc networks - gives a message, unless this has changed in a recent update.0 -

Back on topic: I have given up on Thecloud, just went for a wander around at lunchtime and found a house with unsecured wifi to run the initial setup.--Savings: 26/09/14 the day I reached 100k, 24/07/20 200k, 23/08/24 300k
