The huge chunk that is housing benefit would be best spent on new or renovating run down houses in less expensive areas than the South.
Why pay greedy landlords top dollar rents in London for something that could be half the price further north.
If people cannot cope with less than 26k a year in benefits then force them to move futher North.

I also agree with the "would they be able to earn this type of money" statement. Of course they wouldn't. I am actually kind of hopeful this implementation will see a reduction in the amount of foreign settlers in our country too.

It will also fuel the black economy and probably lead to a subtle increase in crime rates - but that's what we pay the police for, so that's ok. And it's been a while since someone offered me cheap razor blades for sale in the pub.:rotfl:
