From a woman's POV, I would agree with letting her choose. My OH was buying me a surprise watch for Christmas but ended up spilling the beans pre-Christmas (we'd walked past the jewellery shop about 5 times with me oblivious, before he finally couldn't keep the secret anymore!). He'd narrowed it down to two different watches so got me to try them both on. The first was lovely but just didn't suit me at all, far too delicate/dainty. The second one was definately a better style. It has the personal feel because it was his choice, but I'm not stuck with a watch that doesn't suit me (or the awkward conversation of asking him to exchange it/putting up with it to not offend and not wanting to wear it). You could always use a token ring, then show her the one (or few) you've chosen to get her opinion on it. She may fall in love with it, and you've got the satisfaction of having chosen it all by yourself, or she may not be keen - which will be a little disappointing for you but at least you won't have made a £700 mistake!

Please let her choose her own ring. She is the one thats going to be wearing it for the entire length of your marriage. If she doesnt like it it will probably be stuck in a drawer somewhere and rarely will see the light of day.

I got an engagement ring recently from an internet company (samara james) they sent a silver and cubic zirconia model for us to try first before making the real thing. This really helped as it's hard to know what it will look like in real life from a picture on the internet. I had two models made of a similar ring, the one I thought I'd like most from the pictures was the one I liked least when I saw the model.
We had discussed getting married i then went and chose the ring, and got one we both liked, once it had been made my partner took possession of it and chose his time to propose!
This was much better than him trying to guess what kind of ring I would like, I went for a very unusual design in the end, he would never have thought I liked it.

By the way just because I mentioned the company's name I am not spamming, spam alert folk. I just happened to have a good service and would recommend them, it's relevant to the post - not everytime when someone mentions a company they like does it have to be spam!

of course it doesn't. but it's pretty easy to use a bit of common sense to work out if someone is a genuine poster, or a spammer. the latter will usually create new accounts just to promote online sites.

And quite often will find old, long-dead threads to post on.

Hello, i think you should ask your gf about your engagement ring quality and try to know her choice about this.
