scs sofas

Options
I'm not sure if I've posted in the right place, sorry if I haven't.
I brought a sofa from SCS, and it arrived the end of November, in the wrong colour. They re ordered it and again it arrived last week in the wrong colour. They are sending the manager out with swatches to see if the sofa matches the colour i thought i had brought (charcoal), if it does match theres nothing i can do, even though this is not the colour that we saw in the shop when we chose. What are our options, if any

  • Similar thing happened to me, although the store admitted they were at fault straightaway. Out of interest, which suite did you order?

Have you checked your sales receipt and delivery note? Do the details for your suite match? In my case the descriptions on the two documents did not match which proved that the mistake was with the store.

If you don't have those, but you're really sure that you've not been given the colour you ordered, then another way of checking would be to cut off a small sample of fabric from your suite (usually you can find a loose flap of fabric under the seat cushions) and take that into the showroom and compare for yourself with the suite/swatch you saw.

If they match then there's not much you can do, probably just the colour looks different in the light of your home compared to the lights in the showroom.

Frankly, after my experience with SCS I would treat their managers with a lot of suspicion. If it turns out that they are in the wrong, then I wouldn't put it past them to try and fob you off with some ridiculous story. But that's just my two cents.

Don't do this. Otherwise you could find yourself liable. Whilst in your possession you have a duty of care.

I agree with the other points made here though op -- if you saw the samples and the samples match the sofa then there isn't much you can do.
  • Sorry, hadn't thought of the duty of care. Ignore what I said. Maybe if you had matching cushions, then take one of them into the store instead and do a colour match that way.

Hope you get this sorted op :)

Good idea, if they are scatter-back type cushions shouldn't be too difficult. Maybe take the receipt with you though -- you don't want them to think your stealing when you leave with it :D
  • the sofa is called "sophie" the colours aren't very clear on the internet. I think the one we have is called charcoal so it will match the swatch, but its not the colour we chose in the shop. I showed the man the swatch i wanted and he told me it was called charcoal, i now think it was the black, he wrote charcoal/black on the paper work, but the the actual charcoal doesnt have any black on it.

I see what you mean, the way they describe their colours is really confusing on the website. They have 6 colours, coffee, black, ivory, chocolate, charcoal and stone, yet the description says that the sofa pictured is coffee/chocolate. How can you have two colours on a sofa??

So if I get what you're saying, the colour you picked in the store is actually called "black" on the website. The only difference I can see between the two swatches online is that the black has a dark coloured cord fabric and the charcoal has a light coloured cord fabric, they both have the same patterned fabric. That's quite a big difference, not one that can be explained by different lighting conditions.

If the salesperson put down "black/charcoal" on your paperwork I would point out that their own description of the suite you ordered was ambiguous, hence their fault they got your order wrong.

Although, it may have been some time ago, is the salesman who originally sold you the suite still working in that showroom? Maybe it might be an idea to have a chat with him. He might remember you and confirm which colour you ordered.

Sorry but another factor to also consider, colours will look different in the showroom because of the lighting, compared to your own home.
