08000304909 - hsbc?

Had a call from this number today to my mobile - very difficult to understand (sounded like a strong foreign accent). Had three attempts to tell me where she was calling from (I think she was trying to say HSBC), and then asked me to confirm my address and date of birth before she would state the reason for the call. I refused to give this information and she said "Ok, bye." and hung up.

Has any else had calls from this number? Is it really HSBC? Do they really have people who can't speak english?

If in doubt you should always call them back on a number your familiar with.

Never phoned them, so I don't have a number I'm familiar with.

My only HSBC'ish account is with First Direct.

Ignore it then if your not a HSBC customer or if you have any concerns call them from a number detailed on there website.

They phoned me, not sure if it was from that number- but yeah it was an Indian sounding voice and it went exactly like you said.

If it was First Direct (The Fraud bit is just HSBC with them being more pleasant and saying they're from FD) they would have introduced themselves as xxx from First Direct, and would have said if you had any queries to call back on 08 456 100 100 and ask for a certain extension.

If you don't have an account with HSBC it could have been that you've requested information from them? If not just ignore the call.

Ive been getting calls from this number since Monday and missed every call till today and I was still none the wiser as to why they were calling as I didn't have a spare 10 minutes and she wouldn't tell me anything because I didn't verify who I was. They are really annoying and I called hsbc yesterday to see why they kept calling but they didn't no. Ive only just moved to HSBC and already there a nuisance

    Yes it is HSBC.

Trouble is when you ring back you will either get an automatic message to say it was HSBC and not to worry or if you get through to a live person they will want to ID you by asking for partial details such as your post code, year of birth etc.

Still worth ringing back as often the calls relate to suspicious transactions flagged up on their detection systems going through an account that they are trying to confirm are yours.

Any fraudster could set up a bogus message.

Far better to ring on an official number you are familiar with.

Any calls purporting to be from my bank get told I won't accept an unsolicited call for security reasons and I will ring back to the main call centre.
