I've been getting car insurance quotes recently and all the sites allowed you to enter car details rather than a reg number. Try Aviva or Direct Line.

You live in a city? Inverness in Scotland is very cheap for insurance, whereas London is a nightmare and insurance will be many times more.

Then you've not earned a No Claims Discount, it's just a loyalty bonus with that particular insurerer. When asked by other insurers what NCD you have it will be 0. So your best bet is to start with that particular insurer, is it Direct Line?

Then try a comparison site such as Confused or Compare the Market. They all allow you to get quotes without registration number, you just manually insert the make an model of the car - just pick a car you think you'll likely buy, you can always change it later. You will have to register with them all, as to get a realistic insurance quote, which are often binding on the part of the insurer, they need all your details.
