Natwest bank charges passed to DC

My Natwest account had charges added to it for a bounced cheque. As at the time we were waiting to see if this was illegal in the courts, I didn;t pay the charge. This then amounted to £425.00!! I complained - they dismissed the complaint. Natwest have now passed this to a debt collection agency who are chasing payment for money that i haven't borrowed.
Can anyone advise on what I should do next? The DC are advising of their final notice of which i assume they will refer it to court.

Which was a risky thing to do as it allows for charges and interest to be added and compounded. This then amounted to £425.00!!
exactly.I complained - they dismissed the complaint.
Which is understandable. They did win after all and you took a gamble on them losing. So, you took a risk and it didnt pay off.Can anyone advise on what I should do next?
You should have asked this question years ago. Its a bit late now. The answer would have been to pay the charge and then if the banks lost then you reclaim it.
There is little you can do now other than hope they dont pursue it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Contact the DC to arrange affordable payment plan ASAP. Don't ignore them, they won't go away and yes and in my experience, you will eventually find yourself being awarded a CCJ. Don't leave it to get worse, give them a ring tomorrow. Not a pleasant situation to be in but it can be sorted and you'll feel better once you've addressed it.0 -
