Bought a new Sharp 32" tv for the oap. We've put it in and connected it to the virgin v+ box etc but cannot get a full screen picture. On the occasional channel it is full screen but on most it isn't. Sky sports news in particular isn't full screen. Is it anything to do with being connected to a virgin v+ box. All the leads are scart leads no hdmi leads (I don't know what hdmi leads are anyway). Its a Sharp LC32SHI30K. We've followed the instructions in the booklet but no luck so any help from anyone is much appreciated. Thanks.

Check the aspect ratio and see if its set to auto i think sports broadcasts in 16:9 which would mean its not a full screen.0

Far as I remember (Im no sports fan), sky sports is 4:3 which is the old style standard definition (None widescreen). So you can expect big black bars left and right (he way its 'supposed' to be)
You can stretch it out if you like (Change settings to always display widescreen) on your tv (Possibly also virgin, cant recall of top of my head):idea:0 -

HDMi leads are a couple of quid each, make sure you get one long enough, use it and set the TV's output as others have said to 16:9 / Full Screen.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Sky Sports 1-4 are all widescreen AND HD capable (4:3 content shown correctly on SD and stretched to fit 16:9 on HD) Sky Sports News is 16:9 now also.0 -

If you have HD subscription you need to connect via HDMI for full resolution. If not then leaving it connected by scart is fine but you need to check what aspect ratio the box is outputting - you should have it set to auto if you want pictures displayed correctly ie 16:9 or 4:3 depending on the channel being viewed OR set it to 16:9 if you want to fill the screen at all times irrespective of programme format0
