Copying reviews onto own website

I've looked at the tripadvisor terms and conditions and googled but still not sure. It feels wrong to copy and paste (including the name and town of the reviewer) a review to ones own page but wonder if it actually is against the rules.
Can anyone link me to anything that clarifies this please? A business I'm involved in wants to put ' A great hotel for dogs' F Bassett, Wooftown for example onto their fb page, lifted straight from tripadvisor, without checking F Bassett's permission or tripadvisor's (whose copyright I assume it is)
thanks

It's copyright, plain and simple.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0

You would just obtain permission of tripadvisor to use it.0

It would be a breach of copyright and you would need to contact tripadvisor to seek their permission to replicate the review. If they find that you have stolen it then you are likely to find yourself being sued.
Why not garner your own testimonials/reviews by writing to your customers?0 -
Thanks. They have just started the site and want to kick start interest in reviews so have nicked from TA. The girl doing it won't be aware of copyright issues so wanted to warn them.
Thanks again
Hmmm, now to find a polite way of letting them know without seeming to be cleverer than the manager!0 -
Could you just put a one line quote then link to the full review? If a business is confident enough to link to their Tripadvisor reviews I'd see that as a good sign.0

In theory yes, in practice no! There are one or two not so great reviews near the top!
But showing all the reviews allows someone to make their own mind up, personally I always ignore testimonials/reviews that are on someones own site as you know they have been cherry picked to only show the positive.
If you show 5 good reviews on your own website you could have dismissed 100 bad reviews. Atleast with the trip advisor site with them being independent from your site they are seen as genuine reviews, which personally carry far more weight.
There will always be a negative but if the positives outweigh those negatives thats a positive start.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Yes I agree, and with my own business I just have a link through to tripadvisor but these other people don't really understand how it works (not being internet users themselves) so are reliant on a young girl to set it up for them. I haven't been asked to help so am meddling really but would hate them to get into trouble because of ignorance of how it all works, - or copyright. And not only have the TA reviews been copied, they have also been edited (but the authors' names and home towns are still there - ouch and even more ouch!)
Tripadvisor has had some stick recently because of claims of false reviews etc, but people still do feel that overall it is valuable.0 -

They will be in for a bumpy ride. You really should warn them as TA do check their logs and will find out that reviews are being lifted from their site and then edited.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -

Thanks, yes I have done now. It will only confirm the owners view that the internet is a minefield and best kept out of but still......!0
