Repair or write-off?

Hi, I recently had a no-fault car accident.
Anyone advise if I can choose whether I want repairs carried out by my own or the 3rd parties' insurers, as both have offered this service?
Also, I'm concerned the car might be classed as a write-off as it's quite old. If, say, one insurer offers to repair it but the other one wants to write it off can I choose which insurers' offer to accept? Money to go towards a newer car might be a better deal for me than getting my old one back repaired. Other option I guess might be to take a write-off offer & buy it back for salvage price, get it repaired cheaper myself & still have some cash towards another car in the future?
Thanks in advance, Andy

You can only use one insurer or the other not both and so your idea for both companies to pay for an engineers report and decide which offer to accept doesnt work.
If you want it written off allow them to take it to their approved repairers as they tend to quote for a top job (though at discounted price) where as if you want a repair then get your own quote from a back street garage. Neither will guarantee the response but makes it more likely0 -
You can take the damaged car wherever you want, your choice. Dont let anyone tell yu otherwise.
Deal directly with the 3rd party insurance company, tell yurs it is for INFORMATION ONLY
Quicker that waymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

very important
You want to get a engineers report before repairing the vehicle. I have seen in court twice that the insurance throw questions and then dont want to pay anything.
In 1 senario the car estimate was given and the insurance agreed, then in court denied it all and said prove it.0 -
Thanks for the replies folks.
I guess it's just another bit of car insurance that really needs making clearer to customers.....0
