A good extractor fan is a good, cost effective starting point if the problem is in the kitchen or bathroom. If it is anywhere else, living rooms, bedrooms then you really need to be looking at a PIV to really solve the problem of condensation The PIV is a fantastic machine and works in the same way as a car de mister, it introduces air into the property and then begins to circulate it. With an extractor fan fitted at the same time this helps to not only take out the moisture in the wet room put helps pull the air through that the machine is pushing in. It will definitiely cure your problem.

We have an extractor fan in the ceiling that goes into the loft and out the side of the roof, i will test it and see how strong it is. I guess we are just going to have to re grout and seal and buy a window sqeedgy thingy and open the windows.

Is there any better stuff to buy??? what would you recommend??

As others have said, ventilation will be key here, but it may not remove the problem totally, unless you leave windows open for ages! Our bathroom is well ventilated and we get a mould build-up on the tile grout over time (say 6-9months). As with Dogactor87 I just use Bleach....rubber gloves on, bleach and rub it into grout/tiles with a sponge, then leave it for an hour or so, et voila, pearly white tile grout.......until the next time it builds up:-)

Bleach is a nice cheap solution, but you are fixing the symptom, not the cause.
  • People. Whilst your preparations and potions may be superb, these do nothing to cure the ROOT CAUSE.

The CAUSE is a lack of air changes. Until you put in adequate ventilation (and that DOES NOT include opening windows) your problems will NEVER go away.

By installing an appropriate extract fan in the proper position (making sure air is drawn ACROSS the room) it will CURE the issue.

DO NOT think that opening a window will cure it or having a fan on that's almost next to the window and opening the window will sort it it won't.

Best place for an extract fan is directly over where you shower/bath. If using a cubicle LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN WHEN IT'S NOT BEING USED. SHUT the bathroom door and leave the fan on so air is drawn across the space taking the moist air with it.

    Sorry for SHOUTING!!
