Welding Costs 2012

Would any of you have any ideas on welding costs these days.
I am looking at some older classic cars but I am not a welder and to get welding up to MOT standard does take a bit of skill.

One of the cars I am looking at , at the moment needs both sills and D posts both sides, what do you reckon Id be set back for that?

a few years back it wouldn't have been a lot for sills but these days everything is pricey.

not many people can do proper old car body welding anymore
i stopped 10 years ago doing old cars for customers because half the problem is the modern chemicals the manufacturers use are dangerous to your health
you need to find someone whos work has been recognised as a standard over many years and can fashion metal to a shape
what you dont want is a bird !!!! welder who has mig and can travel and does the talk but covers everything in silicone and underseal before you get a looksee

really best advice is do ityourself

Didn't know there were 'MoT standards' for welding. I've seen some 'professional' work done for chassis repairs and it was truly shocking.

As above find someone of the old school welding fraternity or DIY. I have a decent MiG welder and have picked it up reasonably quickly although I do take my time doing it to get it right.
  • worst thing is my dad was the best welder there is with gas, but he lost his right arm on a motorbike 20 years back :(

Id have a good teacher but Id rather get a car back on the road some point this century lol.
