I take no credit for this as it is from the https://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/ site, and it has also been mentioned under the thread here for the latset Aldi PC. I got one today odered on line to reserve.
Had a quick look in the shop and it was £389 and a lower spec similar model was £269. Perhaps an online pricing error?

Just to clear any possible confusion, the title may lead people to believe that this is a Core Duo, but its actually a Pentium D, which is also a twin processor, but is a generation behind the Core Duo."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0

Its a cracking deal. Very good specification for the price. Yes its a Pentium D not a Core Duo however its only moderately less powerful in real terms and most people would notice little difference for the majority of uses. The speed of a PC is more than justs its processor. This has a reasonable amount of Ram and Hard Disc space too.
For someone wanting a good all round, above entry level PC to replace an ageing model or as their first PC that will last them a few years before needing to upgrade then I would recommend this one. If you wanted to play the latest games, you would want to upgrade to a seperate graphics card but at this price there is moeny to play with.0 -

bought this, great machine comes with tv card and ms media center remote, there was a Acer T180 up for grabs too @ £300 but didn't come with a tv card or remote, though the processor was the less power hungry AMD 3800+, which is always a bonus for a 24/7 machine.
It also comes with a free vista home premium upgrade (well postage £13.xx odd EEK)
Have to be quick though as I reserved mine and left it an hour for pickup, when I got there they were just selling my one (only one boxed one display left) to someone else, luckly selling and not sold. Even had the barrow boy out with it from the stock room, so just got there in time!0 -
Whilst I don't think this is a bad deal I cannot agree with it being a bargain. Yes the total cost of parts individually would probably cost you a little more (not much) than the price offered I don't think they are especially great quality. The motherboard has integrated graphics and sound whihc generally means a cheap mass produced chipset with limited options for expansion and usb/firewire sockets etc. Also the processor is a Pentium D which is not the same as dual core, both of which would not provide much benefits with most applications becasue they are generically not multi-threaded to take advantage of the dual processing power. Most people think 'Ooh two processor so therefore twice as fast' - not true (try 1.2). You also get no screen or dedicated operating system (TBC) only a free UPGRADE to windows Vista. Yes it has bags of HD space and RAM but these are cheap as chips these days. Also the only bundled software listed is Microsoft works which is particularly poor. If you can only afford £270 for a computer then fine this is for you but if you can strech to £350-400 then you can find machines twice as good as this and you will not regret having missed out on this so-called bargain. You get what you pay for....0

I would argue that most people don't care about any of that and it's a good value basic PC and more than adequate for your average home user who just wants to surf the net and mess about with their digital pics. What goes around - comes around0 -

Well we bought one instore yesterday and with a 19'' widescreen thrown in it was £363.00 total.
We have spent the whole weekend shopping around for a computer and this was by far the best package for that price that we found with 1024MB memory. :T0 -
Forgot to say...
You actually do get Windows XP on there if this is what you mean. You also get no screen or dedicated operating system (TBC) only a free UPGRADE to windows Vista.0 -
Right with you there. It always makes me laugh when people say things like "Spend more and get more".zappahey wrote:I would argue that most people don't care about any of that and it's a good value basic PC and more than adequate for your average home user who just wants to surf the net and mess about with their digital pics.
How did we ever manage when PC's only had 75Mhz CPU's with 16MB of RAM? (My first PC, although it originally had a 486dx/4 100Mhz, which I fried and 4 MB of RAM). It played Doom and Duke Nukem 3d and was quite happy with internet and email back in the dial-up days.
I'm currently running an Athlon XP 3000+ with 1GB of RAM, which handles everything I care to throw at it, including video processing.
Yes, you do get what you pay for, but these days, most people don't really need very much at all to do everything they want to do.Marillion - A Better Way of Life.0
