I want to get over my phobia of using a drill, and actually put up the shelves that have lived in their box in the dining room for the last year. I want to buy a drill thats is easy to use, i get confused when i look at them, i just need a simple drill that will allow me to do basic DIY around the house.
Any recommendations??

Its going to depend on what you want the drill to do? What kind of material are the walls made of? If i was going to buy a drill i'd get a fairly good mains powered sds drill with a normal chuck to go with it. Good for all the jobs then.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Do as we did, checked the MSE site last week saw Sainsbury offer on the DRAPER set 9.99 for drill, sander and screwdriver went and got it FAB.
Usually 59.99 what a bargain and perfect for you to learn with, would you like to buy it?

Wikinsons and Focus sometimes have some good deals on DIY tools.
You can pick up a hammer drill for around £10 nowdays! you wont need anything to fancy for the amount of times you would be using it!0 -
cordless make life much easier and no worries about where cord is/if you'll electrocute yourself...
go for biggest volts you can afford. and dont get an unknown make- dewalt are fabulous but v expensive....but theyll outlast and outperform cheap stuff0 -
Drills shoule be simple. My drill has two controls: speed and hammer on/off. It was the most powerful I could buy at the time, so it's 800W and makes mincemeat of most things.
Personally I think cordless is a waste of time.
I recommend Wickes for cheap no nonsense electrical goods.Happy chappy0 -
Would second that - a basic 2 speed with hammer action will do all you need. Cordless is handy up a ladder or down the bottom of the garden or as a more-powerful-than-usual screwdriver.
Don't forget the spirit-level though!0 -
Focus has some drills reduced down at the moment. I was in last night and there were 3 different cordless drills all at £9.99 ,under their "Massive Stock Clearance".
HTHWhilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -
Buy a model without a chuck key - less fuss and nothing to lose.0

Get one with variable speed for driving in your screws, don't bother with a cordless unless you are going to pay big money for it0
