Sky Magic Eye

I have bought a new TV and mving my current one to the kitchen. I have full sky access in the living room and was wanting to put a sky eye in the kitchen. Is this a simple easy job? Is it wireless?

Yes it is simple, and no the TV-Link is not wireless, what do you expect for a tenner!

You'll need some coax to connect it all up but thats cheap enough.

PS A child can do it!

As above, yes it's simple, and no it isn't wireless.

I bought a sky magic eye (TV link), 20 metres of coax cable, and a brand new Sky+ remote for £20 inc. delivery on ebay.

Mine runs from my first floor living room, up to second floor bedroom.

Both of the TVs will be on the same floor but i wouldnt want a wire running up the hall, maybe thats not the best idea for me

Could you run the cable round the outside?

You could always use a sender unit (this is wireless)however you would have to watch the same channel on both tvs . I purchased a sender unit from tessies i think about £20 ish

I dont mind watching both the same channels as one will be used only for the morning and the other TV for the evening so it shouldnt matter. A sender unit you say...

magic eye/tv link would be same channel on both tvs anyway.

TV sender units are all good - just be careful with the frequency, if a neighbour etc. has one as well you can get significant interference, also a few recent newspaper stories have blamed other signal failure on them (car remote fobs stopped working etc.) - google it.

What's the issue with a cable? If you have carpet just put it under there, otherwise nail it to the skirting board? Significantly cheaper and no signal interference to worry about?

something like this, it's what I use for telly in the kitchen.

Connect sender to main telly and receiver to kitchen telly, mine has four channels.

Bit of interference in kitchen when microwave being used, though that's only for a minute or so.

It would have to go through 2 doors both of which wouldnt shut and just be a messy job esp as the 2 rooms where the tvs are have wooden floors

Could take the skirting of, route a channel on the back of the skirting, but a messy and time consuming job.

Best to go for a wireless video sender, 5.8Ghz would be best (less chance of interference from anything on the 2.4Ghz products). And the only these units could interfere with car key fobs is if it was faulty as car key fobs operate at about 400 Mhz and would only affect a few close neighbours.

Also if you do go for one, make sure it will work for your Sky as some of the senders will not work correctly with Sky+, Sky HD, Sky+ HD, they will send the signal, just could not use your remote control on them.
