Squeeky brakes on car

I have a Citroen C2 VTS & the brakes have a tendency to squeek when braking.

Is this something I should be concerned about as I've never had this problem on any other cars I've had.

I think this thread is for new Citroen C2 that have just come from the dealership. Mine is 06 plate which I recently bought back in October from an independent garage.
  • have the brakes looked at, brake squeel is usually a symptom of either, worn brokes, metal to metal pad to disc, or the brakes are consumed with brake pad dust cheap budget pads have no anti squeel backing or a poor attempt of one, pads previously fitted by someone without use of a bit of copper grease on the back of the pad can also cause some squeel.

then we move onto bigger problems such as stuck caliper piston (sticky caliper) no releasing fully or at all under it own free will, only untill the car is forced forward then will the brake release causing unbalanced braking (felt when braking the car will pull to one side) when pedal depressed.

if your fitting new pads to the VTR VTS, i would suggest using a brembo brake disc set (sometimes cheaper than cheap makes and have a wear indicator recess in the disc) and a set of EBC green stuff pads, or a set of brembo or ferrodo premier pads, the discs will last longer and the green stuff will ensure an efficient braking system last longer and brake all that better and efficiently.

atrixblue has covered most of it. But simplified, it's likely to be one of two things. Worn brakes, which with some brake pads you get a little bit of metal that stick out, but out comes into contact when the pads get low and then it creates a squealing noise to alert you to the fact that your pads will need changing soon.

Alternatively, the pads when fitted didn't didn't have copper slip (copper grease) smeared on the BACK of the pads, as some pads have a tendency to squeal if not greased (copper grease on the BACK of the pad not the contact/front of the pad).
