Can anyone help?
I recently i came pn here and found an article about reclaiming bank subsription charges when i hadnt signed up for an account like this but i now cannot find it. Does anyone know where it is.
Basically i was with one bank and had an ordinary account - no commitments or benefits to it. When that bank was taken over by another one i found i began to get charged as i wasnt paying in a certain amount each month. When i phoned, they told me i had always had this type of account and they could not refund the charges. But i know i didnt sign up and would like my mone back!

Was it a subscription or an underfunding charge? You mention both in your post.
Was it an Alliance and Leicester account that become a Santander account? If not what account was it?0 -
It was an underfunding fee. Apparently Santander reckon my account was meant to funded by £1000 a month although i never earnt that Alliance & Leicester so i know i didnt have to pay in the amount each month.0

Was it a Premier or Premier Direct Account?
Both of those always did have and still do have a £1000pm minimum funding requirement. If you didn't fund the account with that amount or more there was a £5 fee. There has been no change since Santander took over.
A+L often didn't levy the fee or at least didn't until 3 months of underfunding had occured.
If your account is one of the two mentioned you have no basis for a claim.
Edit:-
As pointed out by YB below the minimum funding requirement was £500pm not £1000 as stated above0 -

I have a recollection that Santander may have tweaked this up to £1K (to align them with their own accounts) following the acquisition.0 -
You are of course correct YB both of those accounts did have a minimum of £500pm funding requirement when they were A+L.
Looking at the current price list page 11 of
http://www.santander.co.uk/csgs/StaticBS?blobcol=urldata&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1223417692113&cachecontrol=immediate&ssbinary=true&maxage=3600
That requirement is still 500pm.
So to the OP if you have a Premier or Premier Direct account the minimum funding requirement is £500pm.
If you pay in that or more no fee should be applied.
The Santander rep was incorrect in stating that it is £1000pm.0
