Windows Live Messenger webcam problem

Hi
I'm hoping that someone may be a bit of a wiz with Windows Live Messenger and be able to help.
I've just bought a webcam and set it up so that my friend can see me when we chat on WLM. The webcam is working well, and I've gone through the WLM "Audio & Video Setup" tests and everything is working fine there too.
The problem I'm having is that when I send the invitation for my friend to view my webcam, I can see the invite in MY chat window but my friend cannot see the invite in his chat window at all. After a few seconds the invite times out and I receive a message which says the recipient has cancelled the invite... which isn't true. He never even received it.
We tried several times but each time my friend never received the webcam invite, and so definitely didn't cancel it either. Eventually we just gave up! Has anyone got any idea what's going wrong, and how to fix this?
