Registering self employed

Hi,
I started Avon about 2 months ago so I need to register self employed, but since then I have also started another business of my own.
when I register for self assesment so I have to do it twice, once for avon and once for the other business? im now also worried about the self assesement deadline being end of Jan, I have only earnt about £40 profit from avon so far so im thinking i probably wont owe, but I dont want to miss the deadline and get a fine.
Can anyone offer any advice? I tried phoning HMRC and got cut off so trying here before I try again.

Thankyou

  • Call HMRC, you should only have to register once and get your tax/NI set up. They are very helpfull. Also if your expecting to earn under a few thousand (Cant remember exact amount) you may be eligable for a waver of NI fees.

Self assessment forms are easy to do and your form for 11/12 will not be due untill April.
  • You only need to register once, as you'll only be completing one tax return for both business activities.

The January self assessment deadline is for tax returns for the year ending 5th April 2011, so if you've only been going 2 months, you don't need to worry about it this time.
