Replacement of faulty item - what value

Options
I bought a Fisher Price baby swing from Tesco a few months back and it does not work properly. (only set it up at the weekend for baby due this week) It cost £20 at the time, (was on offer as discontinued), and the up to date version is now £60-70 on other sites (tesco dont have it in stock).

Obviously I wont be able to get another swing for £20, and Tesco are just offering a refund. Am I entitled to a replacement of a similar specification?

For example, they have other branded ones on their website, but the cheapest is £55. Its a long shot, but is there any chance they have to offer me something like this? I assume they will send the faulty swing back to Fisher Price, and will get a refund to the wholesale value of it.

Afraid not. If the replacement/repair costs are too high they can insist on refunding. It is their choice

  • Thanks, just rang CAB and they said the same. Law is in favour of the retailer in this instance. I can totally understand why, but just disappointed that I will have to now spend more to replace the item.
